Last day memories will be forever remembered

For most Lawrence High School students, Monday, June 17 was the last day of classes preceding final exams and regents. However, for Lawrence High seniors the day was spent having loads of field day fun at North Woodmere Park.

Seniors reported to school at the regular time, and began their last high school day. They then boarded the buses for a brief ride to the park accompanied by beloved teachers and Assistant Principal Christian Paulino.

Upon their arrival, students were greeted with wonderful music provided by a DJ, snacks and drinks provided by the Lawrence PTA, and their favorite teachers members setting up for a fun filled day at the park.

The day’s events started with three-on-three basketball and seven vs. seven soccer games in which students and teachers faced off. The joyous times continued with an egg and spoon relay race in which two teams made up of students fiercely competed, while teachers and coaches officiated and watched.

After various rounds, teachers began hurling beach balls and even eggs at students as they attempted to complete the course without dropping the eggs. This filled the event with great laughter and memories that will not soon be forgotten.

The fun continued with a student vs. teacher dizzy bat challenge, in which competitors had to spin around and dizzily try to hit the ball as far and they could. Ultimately the students emerged victorious and their prize made their victory even sweeter, as the winners got to put a shaving cream pie in the face of the losers. For many students this “pieing” the teachers was the highlight of their day and perhaps their year.

Following more events such as a potato sack race and a series of minute to win it challenges, students and faculty enjoyed a scrumptious barbecue lunch of hamburgers, veggie burgers, hotdogs and roasted corn. All of which was prepared and organized by the Lawrence PTA with the help of the student government and senior event adviser Irina Bayeva.

After lunch, the fun renewed with everyone’s favorite event, the water balloon fight tournament, where student teams of 10 battled fiercely until one eventually emerged triumphant. This event left participants soaking wet, but with bright smiles and abundant laughter. The day ended with sweet treats such as cookies and cake, and one final competition: musical chairs.

The Lawrence High School Senior barbecue was a day filled with music, dancing, laughter, sports, and unforgettable memories. The event could not have been possible without the aid of Paulino, the 12th grade assistant principal who played a major role in orchestrating this event.

It served as yet another time in which the class of 2019 could enjoy each other’s and their teacher’s company for one of the last times. Our last day as Lawrence students truly could not have been spent in a better way.
