During the first week of April, Lawrence School District’s Early Childhood Center took part in stimulating activities to celebrate learning, students, teachers, families and the community to mark the National Association for the Education of Young Children Week of the Young Child, an annual celebration sponsored by the association, which is considered the world’s largest childhood education organization in the world.

Monday of that week focused on music as the students developed their language, literacy and math skills. They also saw a performance of the “Lion King Show” by the middle school’s Drama Club.

“This was truly a special week of activities and lesson plans that brought our youngest learners together to read, talk and play as a community every day,” Early Childhood Center Principal Lisa Tariq said in a news release. “These young children are growing right before our eyes in every way: academically, mentally and physically.”

Tasty Tuesday was dedicated to teaching the children about healthy eating. Work Together Wednesday  highlighted the importance of teamwork and cooperation.

The kids fine motor skills were developed on Artsy Thursday. All the kindergarten students received a spring bug magnetic project that they took after it was completed.

Students and their families created family collages and shared them with class on Family Friday. The students also received a Bubble Family Play Plan created by the association.

“It was a special week for our young students and staff,” Patricia Almonaitis, the district’s Universal Pre-K director, said in the release. “Special thank you for the families,” she added, appreciating their involvement with the week’s activities.
