Gabriel Leifer, a Lawrence resident and a 6-5 junior forward on Yeshiva University’s men’s basketball team, was one of six teammates honored by the National Association of Basketball Coaches on July 17 for his academic achievement during the 2018-2019 school year.

To earn a spot on the NABC Honors Court, a junior or senior player must attain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or higher and be enrolled at the school for at least a year and more. “It is always an honor to receive academic recognition,” Woodmere resident Elliot Steinmetz, Yeshiva University’s head coach, said in a news release. “Our players take this seriously and succeed in the classroom as well as on the court.”

Leifer, an accounting major, has earned other honors such as Skyline Conference Player of the Year, top conference rebounder and several more. He graduated from Davis Renov Stahler Yeshiva High School for Boys in Woodmere.
