Lawrence man arrested in Inwood

Police found pot and a gun

A Lawrence man, stopped by police for not wearing a seat belt, was arrested by officers of the Bureau of Special Operations in Inwood at 3:10 p.m. on Sept. 7, for alleged possession of marijuana and a handgun.

Kyheim Lameek Bethea, 32, of Central Avenue, was driving a 1998 Nissan traveling east on Mott Avenue. After police stopped Bethea, they detected the aroma of marijuana emanating from the car.

Underneath a jacket on the back seat, officers found two large clear bags containing what they believe was pot. A loaded .40 caliber Ruger handgun was found in the mesh pocket of a knapsack in the car’s trunk.

Bethea was charged with criminal possession of a weapon second-degree, criminal possession of marijuana fourth-degree and operating a vehicle without a seat belt.
