Shortly before 2 p.m. Sunday, The Village of Lawrence announced via its call-alert system that it had declared a snow emergency beginning at 3 p.n. Sunday in light of the oncoming blizzard. In the recording, Mayor Martin Oliner said: "Please remove all vehicles from the street. If you cannot put your car in the driveway, you may park in the Inwood or Lawrence railroad parking lots during the emergency period, which is expected to end on Tuesday at 6 p.m." The message continued, "Should other emergencies develop, please call Dave Smolett at 516 239-4600."

National Weather service notice:

The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a Blizzard Warning for Nassau County. It is in effect from Sunday at 6 a.m. until Monday at 6 p.m.

Snow accumulations of between 11 and 16 inches are expected. Forecasters said there will be strong, gusty winds and low visibility.

In a statement released on Saturday, National Weather Service advises residents to take safety precautions during the blizzard:

"A blizzard warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout conditions, making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle."
