Lawrence Woodmere Academy wins boys' PSAA basketball championship

Lawrence Woodmere Academy’s boys’ varsity basketball team won the Private Schools Athletic Association (PSAA) league championship with a 71-56

victory over Evangel Christian School on Feb. 16 at Long Island Lutheran High School.

Trent Parrish earned Most Valuable Player honors with 28 points in the title game and 19 points and 11 rebounds in the 67-60 semifinal win over Bayridge Prep on Feb. 14. Jake Lundenberg tallied 19 points in the championship game, including five three-pionters, three of which he hit consecutively in the third quarter. He had 14 points and six assists in the semifinal contest. Rokas Lapsys had 23 points and 15 boards in the win over Bayridge.

The Tigers record now stands at 19-3 overall and 9-1 in league play. Coach Jeff Weiss’s squad awaits its seeding in the New York State Association of Independent Schools tournament.
