Learning literacy at Lawrence Primary

Posted

First, second and third grade students at the Lawrence Primary School at the Number Two School and their families took part in a Family Literacy Night on Oct. 20 to learn about the importance of literacy and ways that reading can be supported at home.

The students and families were guided by school staff to different activities including choosing books that were donated by the Book Fairies, signing up for a library card through Peninsula Public Library, shopping the school's Scholastic Book Fair, and taking the time to open a book and read.

Book Fairies is a Freeport-based nonprofit that accepts donation of gently used books and distributes them to libraries, schools and other organizations across the metropolitan area.

Peninsula Public Library at 280 Central Ave. in Lawrence has an active children’s library with many programs, including a summer reading program done in partnership with local schools.
