Letting their hair down to help

Rock and Wrap It Up!, the Cedarhurst based anti-poverty think tank received a substantial gift of 500 wigs, blends, synthetics and human hair to its Mardi Bra Project from Five Towns newcomers Debbie and Chaim Sabo, who also live in Cedarhurst.

Mardi Bra collects women items and gives them at no-charge to agencies providing services to at-risk women and teens. At the recommendation of Town of Hempstead Councilman Anthony D’Espoisito, 350 wigs were donated to Hewlett House in Hewlett, that provides services to people undergoing treatment for breast cancer. Jeri Barish, the Hewlett House executive director, was delighted. “We were running low and this donation is a blessing,” she said.

The Sabos moved their place of business to a newer, larger space. Four other

agencies also received wigs for their at-risk teen and women population.

Now in its 27th year, RWU researches, discovers and nurtures potential sources willing to share renewable assets. Donors include touring bands, educational institutions, the hospitality industry, professional sports teams, gaming parlors, hospitals and television and film shoots across North America.
