Life, weather you like it

Posted

Al Gore and global warning are news that now seems old,

since suddenly fall slipped and fell and we’re gripped by bitter cold.

The seasons did a quick change with autumn leaves just briefly pleasing,

and before we could finish giving thanks, our thankful bones were freezing.

Closets filled with autumn wear and racks of lightweight suits,

will never get to be shown off as we don our coats and boots.

And folks who’ve never pulled a thought

from their brains of mush and feather,

are suddenly clever raconteurs

with pithy comments on the weather.

While those who claim they must double park because a crisis makes them hurry,

now blame it on “the freezing cold”

and the impending snow (or flurry).

People like to take things slow

and adjust their pace with ease,

So before they face a cold gust of wind they like a gentle breeze.

No one likes to be surprised

even by chilly flakes that give cheer;

Especially when they’re

getting use to the silly flakes that live here.

Yet the weather’s very sudden change while disturbing to most, and then some,

teaches us that life is beyond our control and that we must accept all things as the come.

And though skipping fall

and enduring cold

may seem like quite the bummer,

Maybe we’ll get lucky,

and winter will jump right into summer.
