A golden retriever by the name of Lucky fell into the partially frozen pond at Nassau County’s Grant Park in Hewlett and was rescued by the Hewlett Fire Department at 9:05 a.m. on Super Bowl Sunday, police said.

Fourth Precinct officers responded to Grant Park and found the dog’s owner and spotted Lucky “struggling to stay afloat,” Nassau police said.

Rescue swimmers,  ex-captains Stephen Lahey and Christopher Legrow from the fire department under the command of Chief Jamie Lewin, resuced Lucky. The dog was taken to an area animal hospital for evaluation.
