Man escapes Lawrence house fire unharmed

Four departments respond to Manor Lane blaze

The lone occupant of a house at 2 Manor Lane in Lawrence escaped unharmed after fire was detected in the home at 4 a.m. on Nov. 17, Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department officials said.

A fire alarm system in the house alerted the occupant and he quickly got out as the the home filled with smoke.

Thirty LCFD firefighters under the command of Fire Chief Joseph Sperber fought the fire, along with help from the Hewlett, Inwood and Woodmere fire departments.

The firefighters brought the blaze, which was contained to a first-floor living room in the back of the house,under control in approximately 30 minutes. Another half hour was spent ensuring the fire was out and ventilating the home.

Officials said it appeared to be an electrical fire.
