N. Woodmere man arrested for sex solicitation

A North Woodmere man was arrested on Oct. 28 for allegedly soliciting sex on the Internet from a girl he believed to be 15 years old, police said. Much to his dismay, the teen turned out to be a detective from Florida.

Martin Friedman, 61, apparently met the detective, posing as a teen, in a chat room on August 21, later moving to one-on-one instant messaging. According to Detective Sergeant Lucy Grasiano of Nassau County Police Department’s Public Information Office, Friedman also allegedly used his webcam to engage in lewd acts, and enticed the child to physically meet him in order to engage in further criminal acts.

Once the detective, of the Strategic Investigations Division of the Sheriff’s Office in Broward County, Fla., discovered that the electronic communication was coming from Nassau County, she apparently called the U.S. Marshall, who connected her with the Nassau County Police Department, according to Grasiano. The police then received a search and seize warrant for Friedman’s computer.

Friedman is currently being held as a fugitive from justice pending extradition to Broward County.
