National Grid installing new gas mains in Cedarhurst

New high pressure gas mains are being installed in residential areas north of West Broadway in Cedarhurst, village officials said.

National Grid has already begun the work on Grant, Kensington and Trysting places, and Monroe Street and Oakland Avenue. The work will then continue on First and Lincoln streets.

Century-old low pressure gas mains are being replaced with modern and safer high pressure mains that can deliver the increased volumes of natural gas needed to operate the hundreds of standby generators that have been installed in Cedarhurst after Hurricane Sandy.

The work in the business area is nearing completion and the road and sidewalk restorations are underway. The plan is to finish the repaving before the end of April, weather permitting, village officials said.

During these projects National Grid will need to temporarily close roads to all traffic but will not obstruct access by emergency vehicles.
