The Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools announced this week that Elizabeth Hunt has been appointed assistant principal of Ogden Elementary School in Valley Stream, effective July 1. Hunt’s appointment was approved by the Hewlett-Woodmere school board at its March 17 meeting.

Hunt’s professional experience spans more than 20 years in education at the elementary school level. Most recently, she served as Principal of the Polk Street School in Franklin Square, where she provided leadership for the operation of an elementary school comprised of more than 700 students and 60 staff members.

Prior to her current position in the Franklin Square district Hunt was the Assistant Principal of Hewlett Elementary School, a position she held from 2002 through 2007. She has also served as an Adjunct Professor in Graduate Education at Queens College. She began her teaching career as an elementary teacher in the North Merrick Union Free School District.

Hunt earned her School District Administrator’s Certificate from Long Island University C.W. Post and a Master of Science Degree in Education from Adelphi University. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from SUNY Cortland.

“We are thrilled to welcome Elizabeth Hunt back to the Hewlett-Woodmere community,” said Kathleen Anderson, Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Student Services. “Hunt is an exceptional educator and leader, who embraces the Hewlett-Woodmere philosophy of providing an education rich in the 4As. Her experience as Assistant Principal of Hewlett Elementary School will allow her to hit the ground running, and make significant contributions to the Ogden Elementary School community.”

“I am so pleased for the opportunity to return to the caring Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools community as the assistant principal of Ogden Elementary School,” said Hunt. “The five years I previously spent in the district were extremely rewarding, and I am greatly looking forward to assisting Mrs. Birringer-Haig and the entire Ogden family to positively impact the lives of all of our students.”
