Dina M. Anzalone has been appointed the new principal of Ogden Elementary School. Anzalone was officially approved by the Board of Education at its monthly meeting on March 28. She will succeed Joan Biringer-Haig, who is retiring.

No stranger to the Hewlett-Woodmere School District, Anzalone has served as its director of curriculum and assessment Pre-K to 12th grade since 2007. This position has her collaborating with teachers, building leadership and district administrators on the Instructional Rounds Team, developing the district’s Response to Intervention plan and coordinating district reading teachers.

Additionally, she has provided resources and support for classroom curriculum, instruction, assessment and professional development, chaired multiple instructional committees, coordinated the administration and scoring of the state’s testing program, and supervised educational technology and the Suspension Center and homebound Instruction.

“My established relationships with administrators, classroom teachers and staff at schools will allow me to build bridges in curriculum, instruction, assessment and professional development,” Anzalone said in a media release. “My knowledge of elementary curriculum, working collaboratively with parents and chairing multiple committees, gives me insights into what is needed to establish a school culture where all students can learn in a caring and safe environment.”

Before coming to Hewlett-Woodmere, she served as the Language Arts lead teacher (K-6) and a kindergarten teacher in the Oceanside district, and was the Literacy Staff Developer and a first-grade teacher for District 18 in Brooklyn.

A graduate of New York University, Anzalone has a master’s in literacy from Brooklyn College, a certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Administration from the College of Saint Rose and is currently pursuing a doctorate in instructional leadership at St. John’s University.

“Ms. Anzalone’s sharp intellect, classroom experience, strengths in collaboration, exceptional interpersonal skills, commendable work on all aspects of curriculum and assessment have established her as a valuable resource for the professional staff in our schools,” Superintendent Dr. Joyce Bisso said in a prepared statement.
