New trash pickup schedule for Village of Atlantic Beach

Village of Atlantic Beach residents will have to adjust to a new garbage and recyclable pickup schedule that will run through May 31. Westbury-based Winter Brothers is the refuse company that serves the village.

Trash will be picked up twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays with the exception of Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, and Memorial Day. If a holiday falls on a Monday, garbage will be picked up on Tuesday. When a holiday falls on a Thursday, pickup will be on Friday.

Recyclables will be picked up only on Wednesdays. Recycling items include: newspapers, magazines, books, cardboard, glass, cans, plastic and paper.

Bulk and heavy metal pickup will be on Thursdays only. Bulk items include: stoves, refrigerators and mattresses. Construction debris are not considered bulk items as residents must make their own arrangements to dispose of the debris. There is a six-item bulk limit per pickup.

The village is reminding residents to leave trash at their curbs in either a blue bin or a clear plastic bag and not to mix recyclables with regular refuse. There is a fine associated with that violation.

Recycling and garbage also should not be put out before 6 p.m. the night before pickup and after 7 a.m. the day of pickup.
