Gary Mandel, the previous Village of Lawrence prosecutor, was sworn in as the new village justice by Supreme Court Justice Meryl J. Berkowitz at the board of trustees meeting on Dec. 13.
Mandel, succeeds Donald Buchalter, who served as the village justice for 34 years, and was Lawrence’s first prosecutor in 1968, when the village court was established. Mandel will officially begin the new job on Dec. 19.
