No increase in Lawrence village taxes

The Village of Lawrence has adopted a 2010/2011 budget that will contain no tax increase.

The $6.5 million budget adopted by the Lawrence Village Board of Trustees at their April 8 meeting is a 6 percent reduction from the current budget. The tax levy, the share of the budget raised through property taxes, will be $3.6 million, a 2.4 percent increase from the current budget. However, with more properties on the tax rolls, Lawrence residents will see no increase in their taxes for the budget fiscal year of June 1, 2010 to May 31, 2011, according to Village Administrator David Smollett. "It is really a major accomplishment for us to come in with a budget with what we came in with," said Smollett.

Some of the adopted budget will be used for capital improvement street repairs, according to Smollett. The village completed earlier this week an analysis to determine what streets are most in need of repairs, Smollett said.
