North Woodmere resident Alexander Bertrand, 21, was identified as the man who died on Oct. 17 at Stamford Hospital after he was struck by an empty passenger train in Greenwich, Conn. on the same day, according to the Metro-North Railroad.

An eastbound train heading to New Haven hit Bertrand, who lived on Lawrence Court, at approximately 6:45 p.m., railroad officials said. Greenwich police found Bertrand between tracks one and three near the Davis Avenue overpass and Bruce Park Avenue Extension, which is less than a half-mile from the Greenwich station.

He had suffered a heart attack and it appeared a train struck him and he suffered other traumatic injuries, police officials said. MTA police are investigating. It is unclear at this time if this was a suicide attempt, officials said.

Due to the investigation all four tracks were shutdown, then two of the four were reopened at 8:45 p.m., but residual delays of up to 45 minutes continued until total service was restored before 10 p.m.
