Number Five School remembers Rev. Martin Luther King

Every class at the Number Five School took the time last week remembering the life of slain civil rights leader Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.
The students, grades first through fourth, read several books and magazine articles about King in preparation of celebrating his life in school on Jan. 22. One of the children’s favorite books is “My Brother Martin” written by his sister, Christine King Farris, about their childhood. “I even knew him before he dreamed the dream that would change the world,” Farris wrote.
Jennifer Twomey’s first grade class read an article in the Scholastic News: My Weekly Reader “Before and After Dr. King.” Other books read by the students include “Martin’s Words” The Life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by Doreen Rappaport along with the poem “Dreams” by Langston Hughes.
