Minor injuries to the driver and a loss of power to several homes were the result of an overturned car that struck a Long Island Power Authority utility pole on West Broadway in Cedarhurst at 6 p.m. last Friday.

The operator of a late model Volkswagen lost control of the vehicle, according to officials and hit the pole, which was sheered in half and cause the attached wires to fall to the ground.

Most of the homes in the area lost power for at least an hour. West Broadway between Oakland and Arbuckle avenues were closed for several hours due to the accident.

The Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department took the injured driver to South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside.
