The “Jaws of Life” were needed to rescue a motorist who was pinned inside his Ford Explorer SUV after the vehicle struck a utility pole at the intersection of Sheridan Boulevard and Bayview Avenue in Inwood on Saturday at 5:40 a.m.

Inwood firefighters rescued the trapped driver and he was taken to Jamaica Hospital by Nassau County police. He suffered a serious head injury and other trauma due to the force of the crash’s impact.

According to officials at the scene, the driver, who was traveling south on Sheridan Boulevard, lost control of his vehicle. South bound Sheridan Boulevard was shutdown as the police conducted an accident investigation.
