Out of control truck spills oil on Nassau Expressway

A tractor trailer truck with a 80-gallon tank of oil went off the Nassau Expressway a quarter-mile north of Burnside Avenue and skidded up on the guardrail for 60 feet and spilled some of its load at 1:15 p.m. on Nov. 19, said Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Chief John McHugh.

“No one was injured, but it created a spill and a traffic problem,” said McHugh, adding that an environmental company was in the process of cleaning up the hazardous material.

It was unclear what caused the driver to lose control of the truck.

In addition to the LCFD, the Inwood Fire Department, Nassau County HAZMAT and county police all responded to the scene, McHugh said.
