Man killed in North Lawrence by alleged DWI driver

An man was killed after allegedly being hit by a woman driving  a four-door 2022 silver Tesla sedan on Rockaway Turnpike in North Lawrence at 3:30 a.m., on Oct. 30, Nassau police said. 

Donovan Richards, 26, was walking west in the street by 605 Rockaway Turnpike when Dei Aisha Wynter, 22 of Central Islip, allegedly struck him as she headed south on Rockaway Turnpike, according to police. Richards, who was homelees, was pronounced dead at the scene. Wynter was taken to a local hospital for what police said were minor injuries.

Wynter is charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated. She pleaded not guilty and is out on bail. Represented by the Legal Aid Society of Nassau County, Winter was due back in court on Nov. 1.

UPDATE: The man struck and killed was identifed as Donavan Richardson, 26.
