Pioneers and volunteers honored by JEPLI

Lawrence-based group celebrated 25 years of its individualized learning program

The Jewish Education Program of Long Island a Lawrence-based organization that uses a mentor program teach young Jewish children about Judaism celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Jewish Individualized Learning Program as it honored 11 of the program’s pioneers and 20 volunteers at a dinner held at the Lawrence Yacht and Country Club last Saturday.

Shya Hersh and Yehudis Schwartz of Lawrence, Rabbis Yitzchok Frankel, Robert Block and Eliyahy Albert, Devorah Haum-Kovitz of Far Rockaway, Adam and Shari Maslow of Cedarhurst, Avorham and Malka Kay, and Lawrence High School graduate Joy Mathathias-Avitan were the Pioneer honorees. The program was named in honor of Shy’s mother, Suri Schwartz, who died before the individualized program began.
