A Maryland man was arrested and charged on Oct. 24 for a parking lot shooting that occurred in North Lawrence over two years ago where two children watched from the backseat of the car.

Brian J. Dandy, 35, of Elkton, Md., allegedly ran up to the window of a blue Dodge sedan about to exit a Buena Vista Avenue parking lot near both an Off Track Betting outlet and the Sherwood Diner on July 6, 2007. Police said, Dandy then allegedly shot the male driver in the torso and then shot a female occupant in the front passenger seat. Two children in the back seat, both under the age of five, were not injured during the incident.

Dandy then apparently ran to an awaiting tan or silver four-door sedan and fled westbound on Burnside Avenue.

Both injured adults were taken to an area hospital for treatment, and the children, who were unharmed, were also admitted as a precaution, according to police. The four were released at a later date after being treated.

Dandy was charged with criminal use of a firearm, attempted murder, criminal possession of a weapon and two counts of reckless endangerment. He was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Oct. 25.
