Police make arrest in Inwood shooting

Fourth Squad detectives arrested Durrell Gaines, 23, of 114 Drive in St. Albans on Feb. 25 at 11:10 a.m. in Far Rockaway, for allegedly shooting a 28-year-old man in Inwood.

At 12:15 a.m. on July 5, two men armed with handguns returned to Bayview Avenue after firecrackers were allegedly thrown at their feet, police said. Both men fired approximately seven shots and struck one man in the buttocks once. The other shots struck an apartment building and no other injuries were reported.

Gaines was charged with criminal use of a firearm-second degree, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon-second degree, assault-second degree, reckless endangerment-first degree and criminal possession of a weapon-third degree. He was arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Feb. 25.
