Fourth Squad detectives arrested Brian Harrington, 31, of Glendale, on Sept. 11 for issuing a bad check and impersonating an officer at Rafael’s Jewelry Store, located at 1745 Peninsula Blvd. in Hewlett on Aug. 15.

Harrington entered the store at 1 p.m. and told the owner he was a police officer, displayed a badge and requested to see a gold chain that cost $2,965.45. He then told the owner he lost his debit card and wanted to pay by check. After showing his gun holster to the owner to prove he was a police officer, he wrote a check from a closed bank account for the amount of the gold chain.

On the same day, Harrington went to Gulgattie Jewelry at Tri County Flea Market, 3041 Hempstead Turnpike in Levittown, and purchased another gold chain for $2,283.75 with a check from the same closed bank account.

Harrington was arrested in Elmont and was charged with possession of a weapon in the second degree, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, criminal impersonation of an officer and two counts of issuing a bad check. His arraignment was scheduled for today in First District Court in Hempstead.
