Queens man found with loaded gun in North Lawrence

A Queens man driving on Rockaway Turnpike in North Lawrence was found with a loaded gun by Nassau police on July 7 at roughly 10:10 p.m.

Officer saw a 1998 Nissan Maxima with dark tinted windows heading north by 25-301 Rockaway Tpke., and then conducted a vehicle stop. After being allowed to search the car, police uncovered an illegal black Taurus 9-millimeter handgun loaded with a 15-round magazine that contained 10 rounds.

Steve Innocent, 32, of Dickens Street, Far Rockaway was arrested and charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, fourth-degree criminal possession and vehicle and traffic violations. Arraigned July 8, Innocent is being held on a $50,000 bond. His next court date was July 12. The Legal Aid Society of Nassau County is representing him.
