Raw sewage spill in Lawrence

Approximately 10 gallons of raw swage spilled out from a sewer manhole at the Intersection of Meadow Lane and Causeway in Lawrence at 9:15 a.m. on March 26, according to a report filed with Nassau County’s Department of Public Works.

Officials reported that an “overflow caused by blockage [due] to grease and rags caught on a manhole assembly.” The lip of this manhole has caused a recurring problem of stoppages during the past several years, DPW officials said

The spill was cleaned up within two hours and no sewage entered the storm drains, county officials said.
