Revving up for the fun car show in Lawrence

It was a trip down memory lane for the 40 owners of the vehicles that took part in and the visitors to the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America, Inc. Queens County Region Fun Car Show on the grounds of the Town of Hempstead’s Rock Hall Museum in Lawrence on June 27.

There were sedans from the 1930s, sports cars from the 1950s, muscle cars from the ’60s, vehicles from the 1980s and ’90s that are now classics. There was even a military army jeep.

Oceanside resident Allen Lipp captured the Best in Show trophy with his pink 1957 Ford Thunderbird at his first outing with the car he has owned for five years.

Nonplussed by the prize, Lipp said the car is pretty much the same from when he bought it. “My wife liked the color,” he said, noting he has been a collector, “my whole life, since high school, 1962.” Lipp also won a Rock Auto gift card to the online automotive parts supplier.

Stan Rusinyak took first place with his flashy looking red 1958 Pontiac Bonneville. Second place went to Barry Broder for 1941 Packard coupe and Sebastian D’Agostino was third with his four-door 1941 Chevrolet sedan.

The winners were determined by the museum’s staff. The annual car show, back after last year’s cancellation because of the coronavirus pandemic, is a fundraiser for the museum at 199 Broadway.

From July through December there are many similar car shows across Long Island. Go to www.caparadiator.com, click on More and scroll down to LI Car Council for a complete schedule.
