Responding to a call that a man was running around traffic on Rockaway Boulevard and creating a safety concern near the Five Towns Shopping Center in Woodmere at 1:10p.m., on April 11, police detained Mark Berko.

Berko, 30, then allegedly damaged police property, spit in an officer’s face and threatened the police at the scene, according to officials. He was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

Berko, who police said is homeless, is charged with criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and harassment. He will be arraigned when medically practical, police said.
