The second leg of the newly created Southwest Nassau Run Series was held last Sunday as the 20th annual Inwood 5K took place at Inwood Park. The Southwest Run Series is the Malverne Run for Education held on Oct. 6, the Five Towns Community Chest 5K Run/Walk on Oct. 20 and the Lynbrook Fly with the Owls 4-mile Run/Walk on Nov. 16.

Inwood’s race, which also includes 1K Fun Run and a Pumpkin Trot for the kids, raised money to support a dozen scholarships for graduating seniors in the Hewlett-Woodmere and Lawrence school districts. Malverne resident Christopher Koegel, 30, was the first place winner with a time of 16:57.4.

Shaniqua Kirkpatrick, 17, of Queens, finished fourth and was the first woman to cross the finish line. She clocked 19:16.6. Louis Green, 33, of Woodmere, was the first Five Towns resident to finish. His time was 19:44.8.
