Scam Alert: East Islip man allegedly steals $420,000 from Woodmere woman

Roughly $420,000 was stolen from a Woodmere woman by an East Islip man in a scam that stretched from Jan. 6 2020 to Dec. 23, 2021, according to police.

Kenneth B. McConnell, of Jefferson Street, allegedly stole the money from the 61-year-old woman, receiving payment for electrical, HVAC and plumbing work that was never performed, police said.

The investigation also uncovered that McConnell allegedly stole jewelry from the woman’s home and sold it to a pawn shop, along with depositing fraudulent checks into his personal bank account that belonged to her without the woman’s knowledge or permission.

McConnell is charge with three counts of grand larceny, criminal possession of a forged instrument and identity theft.

His next court date is April 13. He was released without bail. A temporary protection order was issued. The Legal Aid Society of Nassau County is representing McConnell.
