A Greenport man, upset that a shopping center security guard wasn’t able to find the man’s keys, allegedly attacked the guard and assaulted him. He was arrested last Saturday at 3 p.m.

Steven Pirrera, 36, was in the parking lot of the Five Towns Shopping Center in Lawrence, when he approached a man, 74, working as a security guard who was in his work vehicle, and tried to open one of the car’s doors, police said. The guard, who didn’t know why Pirrera would attempt to open the door, drove a short distance away. Pirrera had lost keys several hours earlier in the day, according to police.

Pirrera approached the guard a second time, grabbed the guard, removed him from the car, threw him to the pavement and punched him multiple times striking his head and face, police said.

The guard was taken by Nassau County police ambulance to a local hospital for treatment for his injuries, including a cut above an eye that required stitches. Pirrera was charged with assault-second degree and arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday.
