Shulamith School retains crossing guards

Crossing guards that were posted by the Number Five School in Cedarhurst will remain on duty during the school year for students of the Shulamith School for Girls following discussions between 4th Precinct Inspector Lee M. Steinberg and Assemblyman Todd Kaminsky (D-Long Beach).
Shulamith’s enrollment is more than 400 students, a marked increase over the Number Five School’s enrollment when the building was a Lawrence district elementary school. In addition, 25 percent of the students are not eligible for transportation, increasing the need for crossing guards. Shulamith is leasing the building on Cedarhurst Avenue for one year with an option for a second year.
“The safety of our children is our number one priority,” said Rabbi Perry Tirschwell, the Shulamith School’s executive director.
