St. John’s Episcopal Hospital of Far Rockaway received the 2013 IPRO Quality Award during the group’s annual at the LaGuardia Marriott Hall on June 4.

IPRO is the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization for New York State, and manages the state’s End-Stage Renal Disease Network for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. They give the quality award each year to recognize organizations and professionals that demonstrate a commitment to improving the quality of care provided to New York’s Medicare beneficiaries.

St. John’s received the award for implemented changes that improved patient safety, reduced infection rates, and provided quality care to their patients. Improvements included having departments partner on employee supervision, seeking out problems and solving them, redesigning its medical records system for better data collection and upgrading communication between the infection control department and the hospital staff.

“St. John’s Episcopal Hospital has demonstrated significant improvements in the care it provides, as a result of a collaborative and focused effort,” said Dr. Clare B. Bradley, the senior vice president and chief medical officer of IPRO. “We thank St. John’s for their commitment to improving the health of New Yorkers.”
