Student eagerly awaiting spring activities

Posted

As the end of winter begins to draw near, the students at Lawrence High School are ready to welcome March with open arms. The drab and dreary days are almost behind us, but not quite. While we wait for the month to go out like a lamb, we will have plenty to keep us occupied at school: spring sports, school functions and field trips. The halls of Lawrence High will be as busy as ever.

Winter’s end signifies the end of winter sports. It’s been an amazing, action-packed season for the various athletic teams that represent Lawrence, including the boys’ and girls’ varsity and junior varsity basketball teams, the wrestling team, and the indoor track team, among others.

All of the athletes have trained and competed to perform their very best during their contests this year, and Lawrence could not be more proud of its student-athletes. In the upcoming weeks, students will be honing their skills for baseball, softball, badminton and tennis.

As important as it is to focus on your studies, Lawrence’s student-athletes show us that school doesn’t have to be all work and no play. In just a few short weeks, the music department will go on its highly awaited biennial trip to Disney World.

In addition to making their rounds through the parks, the students will have the opportunity to take a tour of the University of Central Florida, watch a Blue Man Group performance and eat at the Hard Rock Café. It’s definitely going to be a memorable excursion for both the students and the faculty.

Towards the end of this month, Lawrence will celebrate diversity with its annual Multi-Cultural Week. Through food, music and clothing, students explore and gain an appreciation of the multitude of nationalities that make up the student body. At the end of the week, students will be able to show off their talent while highlighting an array of cultures at the Multi-Cultural Assembly. As individuals or as a club, students will be singing, dancing or performing musical pieces that represent their nationalities. It will be a fun opportunity to learn more about our peers and the many wonderful places that their families hail from.

The students of Lawrence High School are excited to finally shed their winter coats and embrace warm weather, but spring has not arrived just yet. While we wait, there are a plethora of activities to engage in this month in addition to keeping up with our school work. There are plenty of opportunities for students and faculty to have fun as we eagerly await warm, sunny days.
