Temple Israel congregants celebrate the Jewish New Year

Rosh Hashana, was celebrated at Temple Israel of Lawrence as Nassau County’s only Reform synagogue on the South Shore rang in the Jewish New Year — 5777 — with services conducted by Rabbi Jay Rosenbaum, who was assisted by the students of the temple’s religious school on Oct. 4, the second day of the holiday. 

Temple Vice President Les Martin and Jordan Rosenbaum blew the shofar, the ceremonial ram‘s horn, which is considered a call to God.
