Temple Israel of Lawrence virtual discussion to feature former champion boxer Boyd Melson

The next Temple Israel of Lawrence event will feature a discussion with former light middleweight boxing champion Boyd Melson.

Along with being a boxer, Melson, 38, is a soldier with the United States Army, a philanthropist and humanitarian. Melson retired with a boxing record of 15–2–1, with four of his wins coming by knockout. Melson donated all of the money that he earned in his boxing matches to spinal cord injury research.

In 2005, Melson received the Jewish Sports Hall of Fame "Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award." In 2013, he received the Jewish Sports Hall of Fame "Good Guy" Award. Melson was also recently selected to be inducted into the Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in the 2018 class of inductees.
