Town of Hempstead Supervisor Anthony Santino was recognized for his many years of public service by the Hewlett-based Center for Adult Life Enrichment at its annual gala luncheon at the Seawane Club in Hewlett Harbor on May 18.

As a special surprise, Rosalind Deutschman, Santino’s eighth grade math teacher, attended the gala and spoke about her former student. She remembered him as a quiet and astute student in an accelerated class that took the ninth grade Regents exam.

Santino began his eight-year career on the East Rockaway village board at 22 in 1983. He also served as the deputy mayor for two years. He also served as district director and executive assistant to Congressman Norman F. Lent before joining the staff of the Nassau County Board of Supervisors.

Before his service on the town board, he was the town’s director of communications for six-and-a-half years. Santino served 22 years on the town board before becoming supervisor.
