Town assistance for Sandy victims

Mobile building department at Inwood Marina on Thursday

Posted

Five Towns residents seeking to rebuild or repair their homes damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Sandy can receive information and ask questions of Town of Hempstead Building Department employees at the Inwood Marina on Bayswater Boulevard on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Building permit regulations, variances and other concerns regarding home renovations will be addressed. Residents can also get permit applications.

The town’s building department will waive all permit fees for Sandy-related repairs and temporary housing trailers. It is also putting aside a requirement for a building variance for residents looking to rebuild their homes with elevated foundations to meet Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) standards.

A copy of an insurance claim associated to the repair or replacement along with architectural plans submitted to the building are needed to apply for building permits.

Inclement weather may cancel the event. For more information or to conform that the mobile building department will be at the location call (516) 812-3303 after 9 a.m.
