A Long Island Power Authority transformer on a utility pole in front of 30 Meadow Lane in Lawrence exploded and ignited on July 10 at 12:30 p.m., according to officials from the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department. The fire, which also set nearby brush on fire, caused several area residents to lose power. Police shut down Meadow Lane in both directions until the fire was brought under control approximately an hour later. Above, a LIPA worker replaced the transformer.
