Two 4th Precinct police officers were assaulted by a Brooklyn man in Inwood on Thursday after they saw him with what appeared to be a handgun, police said.
Elton Daniels, 29, of Linden Boulevard, was in the area of Prospect Avenue and Alvin Place in Inwood at 3:45 p.m., when the officers approached him, according to police.
Daniels fled on foot after the officer approached him, but he was apprehended a short time later. He then became combative and struck one officer in the shoulder multiple time and pushed him against a parked car. Daniels also hit the other officer several times in the shoulder, police said.
The officers did subdue Daniels and arrested him. They were taken to a local hospital, where they were treated and released. The handgun was not recovered.
Daniels was charged with two counts of assault-third
degree, resisting arrest and obstruction of governmental administration.
He was arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Friday.
