Mostly Cloudy Two-vehicle accident in Hewlett traps driver

Two vehicles crashed at the intersection of Mill Road and Peninsula Boulevard. The collision's impact overturned the minivan and trapped the driver.

The impact of a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Peninsula Boulevard and Mill Road in Hewlett today at 12:30 p.m. caused one of the vehicles to flip on its side, trapping the driver.
Officials at the scene said that the minivan was headed north on Mill Road and was broad sided by a car traveling east on Peninsula Boulevard. The force of the crash resulted in the minivan being turned on its side. Nassau County police and Hewlett Bay firefighters helped the driver out of the vehicle.
Both drivers were taken to South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside suffering from non-life threatening injuries, officials said. Area traffic was diverted for more than an hour until the vehicles and debris were cleared from the roads.
