West Broadway project set to begin

After being included as part of Nassau County’s 2016 capital budget, then having stalled due to political battles in the County Legislature, County Executive Ed Mangano announced on July 6, that the West Broadway project which includes drainage upgrades and road resurfacing will start next week.

“West Broadway is a major artery for the Five Towns and these improvements will help mitigate flooding concerns while restoring the roadway for commuters,” Mangano stated in a media release.

The first phase of restoration will begin next week, and continue for several weeks, with two drainage projects aimed at addressing flooding concerns. The drainage concerns must be addressed prior to milling and resurfacing the county’s portion of West Broadway, from Broadway to Rockaway Turnpike. Milling and resurfacing is expected to take place in 2018, county officials said. The roadway stretches from Hewlett to Cedarhurst.

An expanded story with community reaction will be published on July 13.
