Woodmere Middle School students finish first at History Day competition

Eight Woodmere Middle School students combined for a pair of first place finishes in the New York State History Day competition that was held in upstate Cooperstown on April 23.

Gillian Polakoff and Rachel Krevans took the top spot in the Junior Group Documentary category for their work on Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

In the Junior Group Website category, Jonathan, Nicole and Lori Matza, Dannah Allen and Catalina Pugliese finished first for their project, “Samuel F.B. Morse: The Revolution Communication.” Both groups have Kathleen Durney as their teacher.

The students qualified for the National History Day championship at the University in Maryland in June.
