The community basketball game between Lawrence High School’s football team and officers from the fourth precinct is officially an annual event.
The event began last year after the athletic director, Joe Martillotti approached then superintendent Gary Schall and Board of Education trustee, Heshy Blachorsky. “It was just something to highlight really how great the police officers of the fourth precinct are,” said Martillotti.
Both the officers and athletes expressed that they were happy to see the community come together, “I think it’s a great opportunity to show us out of the uniform, that just like them we like sports,” said officer Gregory O’Neill.
Last year the football team won a 52-51 thriller in overtime, the fourth precinct will be looking to even the score in their second annual game on May 23 at 7 p.m. in the gym at Lawrence High School. Admission is free, but PTA will be selling food and raffles to raise money for their senior awards and other programs.
