Young Israel of Woodmere synagogue collected 60 pints of blood at its bi-annual blood drive on June 30, as more than 50 donors lined up to give what is called the gift of life.
“Blood saves lives and we need people to come down and donate, as we always have a need for it,” said Ramona Velez, a New York Blood Center volunteer.
According to New York Blood Center staff, donated blood is used to aid accident, burn and cancer victims. “There is always a need for blood at our local hospitals, and we are appreciative to everyone who came out to give blood,” said Roberta Gettinger, the blood drive’s coordinator.
