Elmont rebuilds its winning tradition

The Elmont Spartans Varsity Boys Lacrosse team had a lot to prove coming back from a difficult season in 2014. With a majority of the seniors returning for their last season, a lot had to be done. Based on the many off-season workouts, including weight-lifting and indoor running, coaches knew that this would be the year that could bring back the Elmont Lacrosse winning tradition.

Throughout the season, both the offense and defense developed chemistry that led to success on the field. The team as a whole has progressed throughout and improved tremendously, especially their lacrosse I.Q., and becoming confident in each other’s ability. Their record does not exemplify their true capabilities as student-athletes because this particular team will leave a lasting impression upon the younger grades coming through the program.

Elmont Lacrosse has always enjoyed a rich, strong, winning tradition and looks to rebuild that tradition with the addition of next year’s new turf field and ball nets surrounding the field. With the summer league, off-season clinics, position training and conditioning, it should lead to continued success next season.

The 2015 Elmont Spartans are led offensively by seniors Kendall St. Louis, Nigel Redhead, Malcom Walker, Tosg Crosfield and Simon Kalu. The junior class is led by Matthew Penalvert, Aston Brown and Harold Elize. Currently, Penalvert is tied for 6th in Nassau County in scoring and 15th in the county in total points.

The Defensive front is anchored by a senior core of Tariq Qureshi, Marc Cruz, Jermain Dyer, Varnel Fleurisma, Chris Garrido and Junior Captain Trevor Desire.

On another positive note, the 2015 junior varsity team has enjoyed a dominating record and looks promising to help continue “Rebuilding the Winning Tradition.”
